It is a set of tourist services activities, proposed by tourist operators to responsible travelers, and developed by the host communities, indigenous (or at least in large part with them). These communities are involved predominantly to changes in the definition of these activities (possibility to modify, redirect, to stop them). They also participate in their ongoing management significantly (by minimizing intermediate not adhering to these principles of fair tourism).
Social, cultural and financial benefits of these activities must be seen largely locally and equitably shared between members of the indigenous population.

The associations that define "fair tourism" are supposed to submit to the control of the Platform for Fair Trade.
